1930s - 60s Police Dogs and Public Safety Films DVD

An original production published by The Classic Archives!

This is a collection of classic police and public safety films shown to the public from the 30's to the 60's.  It shows the dangers of the day, many of which still apply today.  Also included is a film called "Signal 30", which was the Driver's Ed, shock and awe film of the time, that showed car wrecks in great detail to warn youth about the dangers they face on the road.

This DVD runs almost 3 hours in length and comes with a fully interactive menu.  It includes the following films:

ADT When Every Minute Counts (1958)

How ADT alarm systems secure property, with elaborate coverage of alarm and communications technology in the analog era. A fire chief and a police chief do their level best to convince us that we should all protect our businesses with ADT fire and burglar alarm systems, and they do a pretty good job of it, too, addressing all of our possible objections through the voice of the narrator.

Booked for Safekeeping (1960)

Fascinating documentary made to train police officers in the assistance and management of mentally ill and confused persons, produced in New Orleans by eminent filmmaker George C. Stoney using real New Orleans police officers as actors. A little-known ethnographic classic that is strongly rooted in the place where it was made.

Don't Talk to Strangers (ca. 1950s)

Dramatized film warning children of the dangers of strangers.  I love the way the little girl refuses, then walks to the back of the car casually and takes the number down. i love the actions in this movie.  Such as the mother pushing the child away (*child abuse*)and then shaking her head in a strange manner to imply that she doesn't believe her daughter. It's a bit much to be honest but weren't all movies like that in those days?

Police Dogs In Action

A profile of Police Dogs, how they are trained, and what happens when they are off the job.  Police Dogs in Action is a low-key film that demonstrates the capabilities of the rigorously trained German Shepherds that were employed by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department many, many years ago. The dogs are touted primarily for their ability to assist in search operations and various forms of surveillance work, but their aggressive nature is also shown in a great scene in which one police officer sics his canine cohort on a trainer wearing a bulky protective suit. When the dogs are not on duty, they are gentle members of the police officers' families. An entertaining little film with plenty of good footage.

Profile In Blue (1975)

A profile of the Nassau County Police Department's history and departments, set to an interesting music score. This film, made in 1975 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the police department in Nassau County, NY, is a heck of a lot of fun to watch as we see up to the minute (for it's time) explanations of what makes the police department work, and as well going into the archives to view the police department as it was starting out in 1925. There's a nice section in there about Charles Lindbergh, the reason it's there of course, is that Lindbergh started from Nassau, and "The last two people that he talked to before he left were his mechanic and a policeman". But mostly, it focuses on the present, from 911 calls, to the modern cars with huge lights on the roof to it's state of the art computer system that can respond to a query in 90 seconds! Golly! Highly entertaining and highly recommended!

Signal 30 (1959)

Legendary "shock" driving safety film featuring numerous scenes of mutilated cars and injured/dead people and a voiceover lacking in compassion. Produced in cooperation with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and shown to millions of young drivers for over 40 years. CONTENT ADVISORY: Many disturbing scenes of violent deaths and accident scenes.
