Today, known as the S&P 500, Standard
and Poors traces its history back to 1860, with the
publication by Henry Varnum Poor of History of Railroads and
Canals in the United States. This book compiled
comprehensive information about the financial and
operational state of U.S. railroad companies. In 1868, Henry
Varnum Poor established H.V. and H.W. Poor Co. with his son,
Henry William Poor, and published two annually updated
hardback guidebooks, Poor's Manual of the Railroads of the
United States and Poor's Directory of Railway Officials.
Henry Varnum Poor started the
publication to account the financial and operational details
of US railroad companies, which was the largest industry in
the US at that time. This collection of 24 volumes is
meant to give any railroad historian or enthusiast a full
picture of the railroad industry at that time. Each
volume provides some basic information on each railroad
company, its history, its costs, its stocks and bonds,
milage achieved, location, and even its rolling stock
inventory.
This collection on DVD
contains 24 Volumes, all in PDF format.
Please note that this collection contains scans of old books, some
of which were in poor condition before being rescued and digitized for
posterity. This means that you may see some pages with creases
and tears that show up in the scans.
