Our Miss
Brooks:
Our Miss Brooks, was a radio sitcom that
first aired on CBS Radio on July 19, 1948. It told the story of
an English teacher Connie Brooks, which was portrayed by
American actress Eve Arden. It was such a hit among many
listeners that during its run, it received several awards
including Arden winning the Radio Mirror magazine's poll for the
best radio comedienne of the year for the years 1948 and 1949.
Other actors and actresses included in the show were Gale
Gordon, Don Porter, Robert Rockwell, Jane Morgan, and many more.
The Our Miss Brooks radio show's last episode was aired on 1957.
A year before the radio series ended, it had a television, stage
play, and film adaptations of the same title. Eve Arden was even
offered to teach English in different High Schools.
My Little
Margie:
Airing toward the end of the Golden Age of
Radio, My Little Margieactually started as a hilarious TV
sitcom.
Starring Gale Storm as heavily made-up scheming "Little Margie,"
this show is a laugh riot that is sure to have your belly
rolling! One of the few old time radio shows to do so, it
originally began as a TV show. It was such a hit that the radio
took it on with parallel story lines. Living with her father,
Verne (Charles Farrell), cheery little Margie squeeks out some
very funny plots with her goofy boyfriend Freddie (played by Gil
Stratton Jr.), neighboring friend Mrs. Odetts (Verna Felton),
and hateful spiteful old whip-cracking boss man Mr Honeywell
(Will Wright). This is one rollicker you are sure to enjoy!
